In 1985, Kelly Hansen was introduced to guitarist Robert Sarzo and bassist Tony Cavazo, two "small brothers" of the hugely popular Quiet Riot members Rudy Sarzo and Carlos Cavazo. Needing a drummer to complete the group, a manager friend introduced them to Jay Schellen and HURRICANE was born.

HURRICANE enjoyed much success in the late 80's and early 90's, producing 3 critically acclaimed CDs; "Take What You Want" ('85-'86), "Over The Edge"('88), "Slave To The Thrill"('90). Spawning the US top 40 single "I'm On To You" and making 5 top 5 MTV videos, HURRICANE always prized playing live for their fans the most, consistently touring the U.S., Canada & Japan, with such groups as: Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, Stryper, Poison, MSG, Gary Moore & Ted Nugent. In 1991, while on tour promoting "Slave To The Thrill", HURRICANE received news that their label, Enigma Records, had declared bankruptcy. Although interested, the parent company, Capitol Records & Hurricane failed to come to an agreement to continue together. Suddenly without a recording contract and facing a changing music scene, HURRICANE decided to take a break.

Jay joined up to record with a new band on Interscope Records called Unruly Child. After returning from Brussels, recording for the group Lynx, Jay was introduced to David Reece and Larry Farkas. The three formed the group Sircle Of Silence .The trio went on to record two records. Jay, while a busy clinician, remained active in the LA session scene, recording sessions for a variety of artists worldwide, including: Chris Squire & Billy Sherwood, Stream, Heaven & Earth, Air Pavilion, World Trade and has been the drummer of choice for the guitar star studded tribute records, "Jeffology" (Jeff Beck) and "Crossfire" (Stevie Ray Vaughn), as well as numerous other tributes to follow.

Constantly crossing paths professionally, and all the while remaining close friends, Jay suggested Kelly to join in the making of UNRULY CHILD's second release "Waiting For The Sun". Kelly has continued to make music as well, recording as a guest and session singer for many projects, including, Slash's Snakepit, Fergie Fredriksen, Don Dokken, Bourgeois Pigs. Kelly wrote and sang on Heaven & Earth's first release and performed several shows with the band worldwide. He also joined C.C. Deville on Hollywood Records for the ill fated Needle Park, before joining Jay on Unruly Child's "Waiting For The Sun" and Air Pavilion's "Sarrph Cogh" and "The River/The Life". Along with the many tribute records, including, "Great Zeppelin", Covered Like A Hurricane", "Cheap Dream" & others, Kelly co-writes and acts as producer on many projects.

During the past few years, Kelly and Jay were constantly reminded of their shared collaboration in HURRICANE by many fan letters and e-mails asking if they would consider getting back together to make another record. With this in mind, Kelly and Jay decided to partner up with Frontiers Records with the precise task to make a new Hurricane record, not just a rehash of their 80's music. "Liquifury" has been recorded and produced by Kelly and Jay and features Kelly Hansen on all vocals and guitar, Jay Schellen on drums plus Larry Antonino (Unruly Child) on bass and guitarist Sean Manning. Also appearing are Carlos Villalobos and Randall Strom on guitars.
